Laurentian University

Laurentian University was established in the year 1960 and it is a mid-sized bilingual university in Greater Sudbury, Ontario. The focus of this university is primarily on the undergraduate programming. This university also features the most recent medical school in Canada, the Northern Ontario School of Medicine that was opened in the year 2005 in association with Lakehead University. The school of Graduate Studies of this university provides a growing number of graduate-level degrees. This university is the largest bilingual provider of distance education in the whole of Canada.

The campus of this university is situated on the south side of Lake Ramsey, adjacent to the richest residential neighborhoods. Idlywylde golf course also is very near to the campus of this university. This university includes a federated school structure which is alike to the one at the University of Toronto. The school also contains a atypical and sometimes contentious student government structure.

This university has strong links with the mining industry and is one of the few schools in Canada that offers mining engineering. This university is also the only university in Canada that is present in a city where the main industry is mining. Education in Canada is always highly regarded and so is this university.
